Meet is soft spoken but not all leaders have to be voluble and garrulous. Meet was chosen for his steady grasp over current affairs and his willingness to participate in school activities. Meet deserves to be the co-head of ECOFIN because he is one of the oldest students in the batch and is well liked by his peers.
Good morning esteemed chief guest Mr Muralee Thummarukudy, teachers
and distinguished delegates present. Welcome to the Economic and
Financial Affairs Committee (ECOFIN) of Good Shepherd Internationals
Model United Nations 2020. On the international level the head of ECOFIN
is Cheikh Niang and one of the main agenda discussed in ECOFIN is
‘Measures to address the economic crisis in the Bolivian Republic of
Venezuela’. The nation of Venezuela remains today in the midst of an
almost decade long economic crisis due to which the public and
government have suffered a lot in terms of financial management and
grow the struggling economy. This year I am going to co-chair ECOFIN and
I look forward to working with all of you over the next two days and to
make this MUN an enjoyable and intellectually stimulating event. I have
the privilege of serving as your co-chair of this conference along with my
friend and colleague Harshul Amin. This year our committee has 22
delegates who have different countries allotted for them. As my first
chairing experience, I look forward to debating and deliberating on
several key proposals for resolutions.
Our committee is going to discuss two key issues. The first topic on our
agenda will be the measures to be adopted by the global community to
avoid a global financial crisis. Even as I speak, we are facing an
unprecedented economic and health crisis with a global pandemic
crippling the world’s economy and fears of a recession looming large on
the horizon. Further, the spread of COVID-19 may require the imposition
of stringent containment measures—actions that may lead to a further
strain on the fragile global economy. Therefore any discussion on the
measures to be adopted to avoid a global financial crisis, at this juncture,
is very crucial as the global community seeks to avoid a repeat of “The
Great Depression of 1932” or “The International Debt Crisis”. Needless to
say ECOFIN has had and will continue to have a huge role in improving the
economic well-being of every member state as well as the world as a
whole. ECOFIN has helped many developing countries with financial
assistance through times of crisis and development in order to spur
growth and prosperity.
The second topic for discussion pertains to reducing unemployment due
to territorial disputes between Israel and Palestine. This topic ties in well
with the first. The impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to hit
the Palestinian economy hard. The first quarter of 2020 saw another rise
in Gaza’s unemployment rate, which reached 45.5%, compared to 42.7%
in the last quarter of 2019, and 45.1% in 2019 overall. The unemployment
rate in the West Bank rose as well. The occupation of Palestinian territory
by Israel continues to deepen the economic and social hardship for
Palestinians and unless urgent measures are taken to resolve the dispute,
the economic hardships faced by the Palestinian are likely to increase.
Finally may I congratulate you for your acceptance into the conference
and indeed our committee, and may I further promise to do my very best
from my part to make it your most constructive and joyful MUN
experience. Harshul and I look forward to sharing this experience with
you as chair of the ECOFIN committee as we deliberate on the above
mentioned issues. We hope you will enjoy our sessions.
THANK YOU
The first delegate to present their resolution was the delegate of United states of America who was presenting on our committee’s second agenda the Reducing unemployment due to territorial disputes between Palestine and Israel, which took turn to a heated debate in the first half of the day. The delegate spoke some valid points, but was not supported enough by his co-submitters. This led to eventually having the entire committee against him. The delegate’s resolution was debated upon for a total of an hour. His resolution although quite nicely structured, had many flaws which were taken full advantage of by the delegate of Palestine, the head as the UN representative and the delegate of China. Unfortunately, these were the only people that spoke throughout the debate and single-handedly guided the debate against the delegate of United States of America. Although there were some that tried to back the US delegate, they were quickly trampled upon by the speakers mentioned above. His resolution had fallen quickly after a session of unmoderated caucus, after which all the people in committee were convinced that the delegate’s resolution should be failed. It was at the halfway mark of the second session where his resolution was voted as failed. The next to present their resolution was the delegate of China, aka me. My time in the spotlight ended in a different path. At the beginning it was extremely heated due to the involvement of fellow delegates from the other committees and the press IT admin department. They along with the delegate of Palestine caused quite a turmoil against me in the committee, but they were quickly stopped in their tracks by our committee’s co-head who acted as one of the UN representatives, and supported my resolution and turn the tides against them and saved one of the clauses. After that we moved onto another clause, where our co-head turned against me and proposed and implemented an amendment. After that we moved onto final voting procedures for the entire resolution and this turned in my favor
with 100% votes for the resolution.
This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.
Articles – Good topics for articles include anything related to your company – recent changes to operations, the latest company softball game – or the industry you’re in. General business trends (think national and even international) are great article fodder, too.
Mission statements – You can tell a lot about a company by its mission statement. Don’t have one? Now might be a good time to create one and post it here. A good mission statement tells you what drives a company to do what it does.
Company policies – Are there company policies that are particularly important to your business? Perhaps your unlimited paternity/maternity leave policy has endeared you to employees across the company. This is a good place to talk about that.
Executive profiles – A company is only as strong as its executive leadership. This is a good place to show off who’s occupying the corner offices. Write a nice bio about each executive that includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
