Special Political and Decolonization Committee

WELCOME NOTE BY SPECPOL

Good morning to one and all,

The Special, Political and Decolonization committee, SPECPOL,  is the fourth committee of the United Nations General Assembly. It deals with problems of decolonization of countries that have been ruled by foreign powers, the effects of atomic radiation, UN peacekeeping and special political missions. It also covers the problems of UNRWA- the United Nations Relief and Works Agency- which focuses on Palestinian Refugees in the Near East. SPECPOL also has to have knowledge about Israeli practices and the uses of outer space for peaceful purposes.

This committee has its headquarters in New York, United States and is headed by Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom. The member countries under the chairperson are 15, including: the five VETO powers (China, France, The Russian Federation, The United Kingdom and The United States).

Our committee, this year, has been set to explore the following topics:

→The territorial disputes between India and China at Ladakh.

→The government’s monitoring of private companies in space.

Both these topics are of great significance and are turning out to be issues that the world is facing recently because of the increasing number of wars and breakdown of diplomacy between countries.

The Sino-Indian dispute over Ladakh territory has been worsening with time. The two countries are competing to build infrastructure over a large piece of land in the middle, which is called the Line of Actual Control. There has been much violence and there is no abatement seen in the near future.

Moving on to the second topic, NASA  opened the space sector for private companies halfway through 2019, whereas ISRO did that in the June of 2020.These companies work on space projects such as building of satellites, but are owned by individuals or non-government organisations. The governments of these countries are opening up the sector with the goal of pushing the frontiers of science.

This year, SPECPOL is headed by Hariyanth Nagesh of IB1D, and will be co-headed by me, Kashika Gulabani of IB1A. We also have a total of 20 delegates.

The chair, teachers and the delegates of SPECPOL are determined to work together and come up with legitimate solutions which will benefit both the representative’s own country, and the rest of the world in this year’s GSMUN.

I have seen that the delegates in my committee have finetuned their debating and research skills and one can only go forward from this junction. We have huge expectations and hope for the best for the committee.

I would lastly like to wish all the delegates luck on behalf of the chairs.

Thank you.

DAY 1

Our topic being The India –China Territorial disputes

the first Resolution was by the delegate of India ,

Where the debate was very thrilling , it was India and

its allies vs the Chinese where India proposed its

solutions to the current issue and a very long debate

regarding the pros and cons of it were debated and a

lot of amendment are made.

At the start, I had felt No one approved to the

Resolution but indeed as the discussions and time had

passed, the majority was for the Resolution and India’s

Resolution had passed.

The second Resolution was as exciting as the first one

as it was the continuation of the first agenda. The

delegate of china had presented his Resolution and it

was very good that the Secretary General as well as the

deputy Secretary appreciated it. The Delegate of

China’s resolution had passed with zero amendments.

The First day of the 2020 MUN was very exciting and all

the delegates had learned a lot.

DAY 2

This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.

Articles – Good topics for articles include anything related to your company – recent changes to operations, the latest company softball game – or the industry you’re in. General business trends (think national and even international) are great article fodder, too.

Mission statements – You can tell a lot about a company by its mission statement. Don’t have one? Now might be a good time to create one and post it here. A good mission statement tells you what drives a company to do what it does.

Company policies – Are there company policies that are particularly important to your business? Perhaps your unlimited paternity/maternity leave policy has endeared you to employees across the company. This is a good place to talk about that.

Executive profiles – A company is only as strong as its executive leadership. This is a good place to show off who’s occupying the corner offices. Write a nice bio about each executive that includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
